NASA's CIRES Mission: Hey there I'm Rahul hope you are doing well and in this article, I'm going to discuss what is NASA's CIRES Mission which is a mission to anticipate the upcoming earthquakes and volcanic activities around the globe by using a group of satellites in the space so, a lot to know a to discuss. I hope you will like this article and kindly make sure to read this article till the end. From the past 120 years, mother earth has got a major earthquake where lakhs of people lost their life and property for example in 2010 Haiti witnesses 316000 death reported and the magnitude observed was 7, like this, there are hand full of natural disasters affected human being and earth severely. When an earthquake occurs initially P (Primary) wave will be released from the core and later some seconds S (Secondary) wave will be released finally after 10-20 more seconds the Earthquake will crack our land. Our conventional alarm system works to first detect the P waves after which we get only 30-60 seconds to prepare for the earthquake. The problem is our conventional earthquake alarm system tells us about the upcoming quakes only before some seconds from the actual event took place in which countries will not get enough time to prepare for the earthquakes so, NASA keeping this thing in mind developed a technology that will give us information about the upcoming earthquakes from Space by using a network of satellites around the earth. What is the CIRES Mission?
Since all our conventional earthquake alarm system fails NASA decided to take Alarm system to space, this thought becomes the cause of developing CIRES Mission (Cubesat Imaging Radar for Earth Science) in which Cubesat is a small satellite that will use its Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) system to take two different radar-based images of the ground taken at different times which will tell if there is any difference between the first image and second as shown in the below illustration: [caption id="attachment_1267" align="alignnone" width="700"]

As shown in the above illustration there we can be observed that the difference between Measurement 1 and 2, which is a clear indication of an upcoming earthquake that mother earth will return back to its actual position.
This system can be used for analyzing the volcanic activities around the earth in fact in 2018 the initial test of CIRES Mission was made on Volcano in Hawaii by flying the CUBESAT in an airplane over the volcano and scientist stated that they get lots of data about Hawaii active volcano which is not available from the ground station.
NASA Says about CUBESAT "It is designed to detect each time the volcano breath, as its caldera swelled and deflected" This means if a minor change occurs in a volcano also can be detected by the CubeSat.
NASA after succeeding in the CUBESAT testing decided to upscale this mission from airplane to the satellite in space where NASA will launch a series of satellites and create a network of CUBESAT around the Globe which helps them to analyze the activities of volcanos and the earthquake, also NASA can alert other countries where there is a chance of earthquakes. The only con of this mission is it can't estimate the in what magnitude the earthquake will occur and I hope NASA will develop this too.
